The “Library with hiding places” as its name testifies, has a double use. It works both as a baby-children’s library and as a storage space for your extra books! It is a library of Montessori philosophy where all the fairy tales are placed in a view and children have direct access to them.

The “Library with hiding places” has 2 storage spaces, one at the top and one at the back. Caution! Moms and dads don’t let the children understand you! The hiding places are only there for the convenience of adults, not children. Instead of having your extra books in boxes or in the basement, you can hide them inside the bookcase itself. Ideally we recommend the ones that are of his age and interest, store them at the top and easily make the changes. While some that do not meet his age now or are seasonal (eg Christmas) store them in the back.

The handles make it easy to move the furniture. In the clever way that the “Library with hiding places” is designed, it can also be used by elementary school children. As the child approaches 6 years old you can reveal your secret to him. It is now his turn to arrange his books as he wishes!

Useful Tip: The younger the child, the fewer stories to place, up to 9 at most for 5-6 year olds. This happens to help the child choose and indirectly develop his will. The more options we give the child, the more he gets confused, wants everything and is indecisive. According to Maria Montessori, in the first developmental stage of the child (0-6 years old) we give limited options and gradually increase them.

Additional helpful tips:

What do I need to know to choose a fairy tale for my child (0-6 years old)

  • I choose realistic stories that the child can relate to
  • I choose realistic illustrations I avoid classic fairy tales with bad wolves because… they scare, create illusions and do not help to adapt to the real world
  • The library should be located in an accessible place
  • I place the books face down
  • The younger the child, the fewer fairy tales I place
  • If serving 2 siblings, you can put the younger child’s stories lower and the older one higher
