CONTENTS:
– 16 TOUCH CARDS of 9 x 9 cm (8 kinds of textures, duplicated).
– 16 PHOTO CARDS of 9 x 9 cm, featuring objects that represent the different types of textures.
– 2 BLINDFOLDS.
– Sheet of STICKERS numbered in duplicate from 1 to 8.
METHOD OF PLAY AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE:
– The 16 TOUCH CARDS (8 kinds of textures, duplicated) are for recognising and differentiating various textures.
– The 16 PHOTO CARDS are for associating the touch cards with real objects which have the same texture.
– To help the children make the correct association between the touch cards and the photo cards, there is a SELF-CORRECTING SYSTEM ON THE BACK:
– The BLINDFOLDS are for doing texture memory activities with the TOUCH CARDS.
– As there are two TOUCH CARDS for each texture and two BLINDFOLDS, two children can
play at the same time.
ACTIVITIES:
WITH THE TOUCH CARDS: recognising and discriminating between textures.
– With the touch cards spread out on the table, the student should pick up one of them, touch it with his/her fingertips and give a description of the texture: rough or smooth, warm or cold, hard or soft, etc.
WITH THE TOUCH CARDS AND THE PHOTO CARDS TOGETHER: associating textures with objects.
– One player: with 8 touch cards and the 16 photo cards spread out on the table, the student should pick up one of the touch cards and then select the two photo cards featuring objects with the same texture, placing them next to the touch card (one on each side). Once all the cards have been positioned, the student can turn them over to see if the numbers on the back of all three match.
– Two players: separate the 16 touch cards into two groups of 8 cards (one card for each texture) and do the same with the photo cards. Distribute the 8 touch cards and 8 photo cards to each student. They need to associate each touch card with its matching photo card (making pairs and then checking on the back to see if the association is correct).
WITH THE BLINDFOLDS AND TOUCH CARDS: memorizing textures.
– With the blindfolds on and the touch cards spread out on the table, the student should touch the cards one by one with the fingertips to “guess” which texture is.
– Separate the 16 touch cards into two identical groups of 8 cards and tell the student wearing the blindfold to put them into pairs.

This Montessori wooden toy has cylinders that vary in diameter, height or color.
Because of this variation, a child will be able to visually differentiate volume, size, height and thickness better. Whenever there is at least one cylinder left without its space on the block, a child must understand the mistake and correct it.
